Sustainable Mobility in Catania? Few facts ... so many words

Yesterday, even to make a small guide to our readers (given the lack of information about it), I witnessed, armed with a camera, for an interesting meeting where we talked about sustainable mobility with some experts (unfortunately I could not warn of 'event because I learned only the day before).

had to be the chairman of the region Raffaele Lombardo, the president of the province and the mayor of Catania Castiglione Stancanelli (all center-right) but maybe they thought it was not important enough to matter and the 'last minute (even in conference started) have indicated that would not come, so even the journalists and others are gone. Congratulations! As usual, our politicians prove to be very serious and sensitive to these problems.

In any case, the interventions were very interesting, and were: Prof. Matthew

Ignaccolo, Faculty of Engineering
Plan for sustainable mobility in Europe

Prof. Angelo Messina, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural
Transport, environment and climate change

Prof. Caterina Cirelli, Faculty of Economics
Sustainable economic development: the relationship between infrastructure and mobility

Prof. Francesco Martino, Faculty of Architecture
transport for sustainable cities

Prof. Giuseppe Inturri, Faculty of Engineering
The unsustainability and the cost of private transport

Prof. Lidia Proietti, Faculty of Medicine
health effects of sustainable mobility

Prof. Gabriella Alfieri, Faculty of Humanities
strategies, channels and modes of communication for sustainable mobility

Prof. Rita Palidda, Faculty of Political Science
Telecommuting and distance learning

Ing. Lorenzo Bertuccio, Euromobility
Inquadramento tecnico-normativo

Coordinamento Regionale FIAB Onlus
Il ruolo della mobilità ciclistica

Dott. Francesco Rapisarda, ing. Salvatore Caprì, MOMACT
Il Mobility Management dell'Università di Catania

Ing. Filippa Adornetto, Comune di Catania
Il Coordinamento d'Area dei Mobility Manager Aziendali

Ing. Vanni Calì, Provincia Regionale di Catania
Le iniziative della Provincia Regionale di Catania

Qui sotto vi riporto alcune slide proiettate che ho trovato interessanti:

In questa trovate un calcolo than it costs monthly to have a 'mid-size car, about 550 € !
The graph also shows that insurance costs have risen over the past 10 years:

Here, however, change is highlighted as the means used to move according to the distance traveled, are also compared the changes since 2000 to 2005:

This graph shows that, unfortunately, in recent years the private motor vehicles are increasing while decreasing sustainable:

here as a truly amazing, with the passage of time the km that every day we walk increased and thus the time it takes to move our which in 2007 reached over 65 minutes a day for those who travel by car then it means being more than an hour to breathe the poisons of the smog that accumulate in the 'cockpit and stressed because of the traffic which inevitably causes serious damage to society and the individual:

Under a chart that shows how Italy is second only to the United States as a means per capita car ownership, this obviously involves the traffic congestion in addition to the problems of pollution

Dal canto nostro we can only inform and continue to use the bike.

Sustainable Mobility in Catania: the conference.

promote and achieve sustainable mobility: this is the title of the conference tomorrow, Friday, November 28 at 9 am, will be held in Catania at the central building of the University, in University Square. Yes, the square became a pedestrian zone where you can 'park the car, but you can see where the evening blue and not blue car parked happy and of course forbidden. Everything is simply amazing.
The same is true in the Piazza Duomo PEDESTRIAN, Mazzini, in short ...

Righteous controversy aside, we come to this event, which finally seems to be a awareness on the part of municipal and provincial administrations. In fact, the conference will be attended by Mayor Raffaele Stancanelli and the President of the Province Giuseppe Castiglione: I'm curious to see what will have to say and propose.
In fact I do not think that they can be very credible, since the end that made the subway, or worse still bike path that would connect the waterfront with Stesicoro square.
are wary, not because of me.

manual to repair the bicycle free

I found an excellent manual for anyone wishing to understand how to fix their bikes without having to go to a mechanic and then save even lot of money.

time ago when I was not very experienced bicycle mechanic because they took one from the wheel was a strange noise and he moved, the biciclettaio told me that was changed and the cost was 25 € but since I'm not convinced, I read a little on the internet which could be the problem and eventually I just bought the 'axis at a cost 3 euro and 50 and I installed myself. Money saved: 21 euro cents and 50 , not bad. Council at all then to learn some basic mechanics of the bike because it may always come in handy in case of failures during your outputs apart from the fact that knowing how well their vehicles can only be good.

The manual (in PDF format) can be found in this page by clicking on "download manual".

AAA ... Waiting AUSTRALIA!

I due iniziano un epico viaggio attraverso il “bush” (parte interna e desrtca australiana) per spostare duemila capi of cattle in pasture lands better and are having to endure the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese (we are at the beginning of World War II). The director is Baz Luhrmann , that wizards who directed Moulin Rouge.

Starring wonder, then, a beautiful and a wonderful Nicole Kidman Hugh Jackman (Trai perlatro the two are just beautiful and talented actors in circulation).

Some curiosity?

Hugh Jackman:

- has learned to ride really, to make this film, and there are few scenes where it is replaced by a stunt on horseback.

- is was a second choice for the character of "The Drover" (the herdsman), since the party was to be Russell Crowe. I can speak my mind, adding that the second choice is better than the first?!

Nicole Kidman:

- on the set took care of a stray dog \u200b\u200bthat adopted in the end, taking home.

- just while filming "Australia" became aware of bearing a child.

The film aims to boost Australia - even tourists - this enchanted country. The environments are all made in Australia, then, and the scenes were shot at dawn and al tramonto per meglio rendere la bellezza dei colori dell'outback (deserto interno) australiano.

Io faccio poesia con le parole da una vita, con quella materia prima duttile ed evanescent we all mistreated and crippled every day is that our language, as a musical instrument ... but I have always been reluctant to share my poems, the result of laborious and - sometimes - painful processes of knowledge.

hear me say generally "good" or "sad", or "what did you mean?" or "I do not understand" I've always held back by sharing with others my words. So I typed pages and pages locked in a drawer, blind paper airplanes that have never experienced the joy of flight, harnessed by my fear of falling.

But this fall I became brave and I believe the song that says "the vertigo is not fear of falling, but should to fly. "I have here just a few who want to jump groped. Thought that long for the flight.

I just remember one thing, more like myself. We do not write good things or bad, sad or happy, or things that "should mean." We do not write things .
write words. That sometimes trilled Argentina. Sometimes sad whisper. Sometimes harmonious flow.
As notes from a piano.

Fall

E 'come for a long time, definitely.
But I feel today. Autumn, I say. with his captivating contrast between the warm colors and scents cold air of this province so close alla collina.

Camminerei lenta, svagata, senza meta. Sarebbe fantastico se al termine della camminata potessi rientrare in a house and settle down in a chair antiquated and comfortable, drinking warm tea and staring at the fire. In
silenzio.Con calm. Alone.
would be nice.

MUSIC FOR DREAM ... A world in pink

Another of my passions which are taking a few months ago, just this summer, is country music with all that has been linked to the views of the wild southwest.
It is a ballad that makes me go crazy - fully satisfying the saccharine sentimentalist in me - is " You'll Think Of Me" of that wonderful piece of man of Keith Urban, who is not only the husband of Nicole Kidman, but also a touching country singer.
here's the video:

The song is about a man who suffers from the abandonment of the woman he loves, but which responds to this suffering, warning that he will come out from the pain he feels, and that in future she will rethink their love between regret and remorse. Here is the text:

You'll Think Of Me

I woke up early this morning around 4am With the moon shining
bright as headlights on the interstate
I pulled the covers over my head and tried to catch some sleep
But thoughts of us kept keeping me awake
Ever since you found yourself in someone else's arms
I've been tryin' my best to get along
But that's OK
There's nothing left to say, but

RIT:
Take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories I don't need'em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you'll think of me
And take your cap and leave my sweater
'Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me, you'll think of me

I went out driving trying to clear my head
I tried to sweep out all the ruins that my emotions left
I guess I'm feeling just a little tired of this
And all the baggage that seems to still exist
It seems the only blessing I have left to my name
Is not knowing what we could have been
What we should have been
So

Rit.

Someday I'm gonna run across your mind
Don't worry, I'll be fine
I'm gonna be alright
While you're sleeping with your pride
Wishing I could hold you tight
I'll be over you
And on with my life

So
RIT
And you're gonna think of me
Oh someday baby, someday

TV ... The passions outside

Breve trama:
Marin Frisk -->

Mentre si reca in Alaska (il telefilm è girato davvero lì e ha panorami mozzafiato!!), scopre che il futuro marito betrays her and falls into a deep crisis, so as to bury himself in the small town inhabited by loggers rude and very few women, which will lead the radio program.
Marin know many people in the country, including the gruff biologist Jack Slattery

back from a troubled love story, other than her as day from night.
Marin is smart, outgoing, friendly, enthusiastic, romantic and MOOLTO "town".
Jack is closed, introverted, surly, healthy, spends his free time fishing the river or taking care of wild animals.
between the two will create a troubled relationship, because our hero is really a subject refractory to deep links, while Marin falls in love with him almost from the start. They revolve around the adventures of the characters in the small town of Elmo, Alaska.

The spectacular views, the entertaining characters, the dynamics between the various couples deserve the best romance have made this series (also broadcast this summer on Channel 5) one of my favorite!

Questo è il "promo". Se ne avete occasione, non perdetelo!!

Herpes Around The Nose

age ...

Ok. stiamo calmi, è tutto sotto controllo.
E allora cosa succede? Chiederete voi?

I fell in love. Him:

I've seen all his movies, I have about 2,000 photos on the PC, are registered to various mailing lists.

"collect" video on Youtube that relate to his interviews. It is beautiful and smart and funny and sexy. I even have the album of the Broadway musical, where sings ... and it is well tuned.

In Kate e Leopold è l’eroe romantico perfetto.

Nel frattempo Hugh Jackman dream with open eyes, sighing like a girl and dedicating romantic video ...

The bike under the volcano: Horace Grace

Today I will tell you of an old man very famous in the province of Catania an undisputed symbol of man and bike bond, this' old man eighty called of Horace Grace and every late afternoon along the route Ognina Catania-Nicolosi (700 meters in altitude over 16 km long uphill) walking carrying a load (mainly food) on his bicycle.

World War, when Horace returned to his country finding Graziella married her for the sorrow not to eat until they die . Since then the bike for Horace was his partner in life, a story that seems taken from a novel.

Of Grace has never married and at times has also been hit by some cars that have led him straight to hospital but continues undeterred day the usual way.

How do you you would be able to do what is Horace? All that up with about 30 pounds of weight every day, even on rain , certainly among the younger people would give up before Di Grazia Nicolosi while to get to the ripe old age of 85 still manages to do so, perhaps on a life lived always in the saddle and never a day without sacrifices, admire a person who has undoubtedly helped to raise awareness of the bicycle as a means of transportation to hundreds of thousands of people from Catania (Etna in countries using very little but cyclists are slowly increasing).

Even my passion for cycling in hand, I was sent to him
, seeing him as a child I always told myself that one day I did too 'I that is cycling.

Thanks Orazio you are great!

up you will find a service about him where you will find more information.

PS I have not seen this documentary, I'd love it if anyone knows how to be able to see you leave a comment, thanks.

PPS I remember my initiative to spread the bicycle as a means of transport through the websites and blogs:

Ciclofficina ETNEA: we're back! Critical Mass

Also in Catania, always full of bikes, enthusiasm, and ... work, reopen the Ciclofficina ETNEA, the Ciclofficina more popular in southern Italy, which opened its doors two years ago in that the Social Centre AURO.
This time the seat was moved to another central office, ' EXPERIA, in Plebiscito 782. The Experia
was a famous cinema in the city, now abandoned, which for many years now has been formed this way of social self-financed, and to promote the efforts and activities of the Centre, there is now also Ciclofficina.
EVERY MONDAY 'and Fridays' from 21 : these are the days when you could go to fix your own bike, help to fix (there is still much to do), go just a few hours of relaxation or learn to build a bike from scratch.

The new "opening" will take place at a Folk Festival which will be held on the premises dell'Experia, this Friday (tomorrow) starting at 19.30. It 'also planned auction of bicycles (beautiful) built right in Ciclofficina, as well many various performances.
Here is the poster of the event.

How many people would bike to Catania? We are counting

Although it may seem strange, many people would move to Catania enjoys cycling to school, office, shopping or even riding with his family in his spare time
but, unfortunately, as we know, the city offers no security and facilitation for cyclists.
Yet many families own more than a bicycle almost always unused.
If we knew of many to be urged to create decent conditions for life on the bike most likely we would be much more listened to and if possible to claim that cycling has the dignity of means of transport at less than the others. For this reason
launch an initiative. COUNT I propose to know who we are and to feel our weight.
Alone, each of us, we do not count anything. Together we could be a force!
In a next post will propose a draft flyer to be inserted into mailboxes or in cars (especially those with a carrier). In
handwheel potrebbe invitare chi vuole a fare la registrazione in un sito appositamente creato. Si accettano commenti e proposte in merito.

Telecolor Video3 to Critical Mass in Catania: the video.

Finally, further proof of the Critical Mass message that is spreading more and more, stress that this year (and still is not over the years) have already been born other 3 Critical Mass in eastern Sicily. Paternò, Acireale, Modica.
